GREETINGS FROM THE SANDPIT

Hii!! Finally I’m back on track!!

It’s been a long time since I posted here, please bear with me :) I finally have internet in my apartment. Before this, the data on my phone was always running out so fast!

Plus as most of you know the beginning of the training is always hectic.
One month after I had moved to Dubai and I cannot say that I love being here yet, need to adapt and adjust with so many new stuff at the same time is not the easiest, but I enjoy it here. Now let me update you on what’s happened in the past few weeks.

The joining flight to DXB was amazing, it is actually my first experience of flying with Emirates and I enjoyed it so much, the crew were really amazing and as expected, we got that famous polaroid photos at the galley with these lovely crews! One of them even gave us her contact number in case of we have difficulties in our training, so thoughtful of her.
I arrived in Dubai on June 5th, just an hour before midnight, a really nice lady from Marhaba had waited for us and gave us a very warm welcome and accompanied us through out the immigration, baggage pick up, and all the way to the office to give us the welcome pack and sorted out some documents. Then we headed out to the accommodations. All I did the next day was just unpacking my whole suitcases into my closet, and trying to adjust with my new home.
The induction week was pretty tiring, not so many things to do, but they’re preparing us very well with all the talks and introductions of the company, Dubai, and all various things you could ever think of. After this induction week, the real thing starts, the training, the hardwork, you name it! Especially because I got the earliest schedule for SEP, my class starts at 6 AM, pick up around 5ish, that means I had to wake up before 4 AM for almost 2 weeks, I’m kind of a late night owl so it’s not the most exciting, lol. But somehow I managed to wake up that early :)
I can happily say now that I finished SEP last week with average score of 99.5% out of 4 exams, it’s not as hard as people said but it is indeed require your full attention and effort to be able to manage with so much information in 13 days. And I finally had a proper night out in Dubai to celebrate it with my batch mates. Even though I already have homework over the weekend.
This week I have just finished Medical Training as well, so I’m pretty excited to welcome Image & Uniform day next Sunday!! Also today I had sorted out some things that has been procrastinated due to busy training days.
I think it’s actually a good thing to be on training during the Ramadhan month, it gave me plenty of quiet time to focus on the training, sometimes I can get easily distracted. The nightlife isn’t as festive, no alcohol on few places, most restaurants in the malls are close or might be open for take aways and will only be open for service after iftar time, we’re even not allowed to eat/drink on public during fasting times.

All I can say a month here has been exciting even though I haven’t explored the city as much as I wanted. But as the trainers said, the city, the malls, the nightlife, the beaches will always be there, so focus on the training for the first 2 months, and you will have plenty of time to explore more later on, of course it wouldn’t hurt to go out if you could spare a few days during the training ;)

3 days to go

All stages under My Joining Process had been ticked off now with 3 days left under actual date of joining, which also recently changed from expected date of joining. I got my E-Visa, E-Ticket, accommodation details, even the name and contact of my airport pick-up. Now everything before never felt as real as this. The only thing I haven’t got till now is an email from my Induction Specialist regarding my fleet assignment, not that very important though, as long I work for Emirates which flies to more than 140 countries around the world, I’m pretty sure that all fleets have got their own amazing destinations with different perks and benefits, besides the negative parts, just make sure you leave all the negativity out of your mind. Remember that this job is all about patience and positivity.

Sorry for lack of blog posts, too many farewells and time really does fly. Until I realize that I really need to take the packing thing more seriously..

Gotta finish it soon now, I can never pack light and that would be another problem for me. Hopefully I would be able to write a ‘how to pack to moving abroad’ blog post and share with you some important tips ;)

Emirates Workbook: Prepare for Take-Off

The moment I got the access to the next step on the portal, I started to read ALL the information, don’t forget the side-note on the right hand side of your portal, there are many Quick Links that you can download and view for important notes, such as travel checklist for documents you should bring to Dubai, drug-list and so on.

Here comes the most exciting part! To find your workbook under the Training Induction tab and you can download the e-book or even print it out, so you can easily fill it in, there are many exercises you can try at home.

The book consists of 44 pages, and as the title, it prepares you to take off and start your journey with Emirates. I will break down the important things you should remember on this book below:

  • Phonetic Alphabet
  • Airport Codes

At the very least you need to be familiar with most of the airport codes to identify destinations on your roster. It might be much but it’s not impossible to memorize them all. Some people make flash cards, or even using Memrise apps to help them out. It’s up to your choice of preference on the best way to learn them all

  • Aviation Terminology

I’m trying to familiarize myself with all the new terminology, as I’m also new in this job field. The same as airport codes, you might not need to memorize them all, but it wouldn’t hurt to know as much as possible. Aim for 100% on the exams, so it is very important to know all the terms by heart. It will only ease you on the intense training anyway :)

That’s all for now. I’m still waiting for my ticket and visa while trying hard to pack my life in 50 kgs. But that would be on my next post. Until then!!
